Two-Year Public Colleges Maryland's 16 community colleges operate a network of 23 campuses and numerous learning centers throughout the state. The colleges offer associate degrees and certificates, continuing education and transfer programs. Community colleges also play an active role in job training in Maryland. Allegany College of Maryland Allegany Community College is a public two-year college that provides quality, comprehensive educational programs, training, and services at reasonable cost. In addition to its main campus in Cumberland, AC has branch campuses in Bedford and Somerset counties, Pennsylvania. The college’s programs include credit career programs that provide the skills for specific employment, credit transfer programs that provide the first two years of a bachelor’s degree, and comprehensive, continuing education offerings. Of special interest to students across Maryland are statewide-designated associate degree programs in automotive, medical laboratory, radiological, and forest technologies; culinary arts, dental hygiene, nursing, medical assistant, occupational therapy assistant, massage therapy, physical therapy, hotel/restaurant and respiratory therapy. Certificate programs in automotive technology, biotechnology, licensed practical nursing, and travel-tourism. Anne Arundel Community College Anne Arundel Community College is a fully accredited, public, two-year college that enrolls over 40,000 students annually and offers about 2,000 credit and noncredit classes each year at its 230-acre main campus in Arnold and at off-campus sites throughout the county. The college offers programs of study that lead to an associate degree, a certificate or letter of recognition. There are three associate degrees: the associate of arts, associate of sciences and associate of applied sciences. Two-year transfer programs lead to associate of arts and associate of sciences degrees and follow patterns required for transfer with junior standing to a bachelor degree program at a four-year institution. The college is home to the nationally renowned Environmental Center, which assists public and private agencies in environmental projects, and the Center for the Study of Local Issues, which conducts applied research on issues of local, state, national and international importance. Baltimore City Community College Baltimore City Community College offers 25 associate degree and 20 certificate programs in arts and sciences and general studies, business, information, and office technologies, allied health, biological, computer and engineering sciences, human services, criminal justice and public safety, legal assistant, and teacher preparation. The college also offers noncredit literacy training in adult basic education, Maryland GED Test Preparation, English as a Second Language, and Citizenship Test Preparation. The college promotes student success with small classes offered at convenient times and locations and taught by a caring and award-winning faculty. Ninety-one percent of the college’s career program graduates are employed or continuing their education. Carroll Community College Carroll Community College focuses on the intellectual and personal development of the learner, promotes innovative, effective teaching, embraces a changing world, establishes a sense of community for students and staff, uses resources effectively, and promotes life-long learning. The college's credit programs prepare students to transfer to a four-year institution or to utilize valuable skills in the workforce. Credit-free offerings provide opportunities for workforce development, community enhancement, and personal enrichment. Carroll Community College adapts to student and community scheduling needs through a variety of flexible options, including evening and weekend courses, Internet and televised courses, condensed summer and winter sessions, and contract training offered at business locations. Cecil College Cecil Community College meets the educational, cultural and economic development needs to a predominantly rural county in northeastern Maryland. It offers a wide range of unique classes and course options, both credit and noncredit, including on-line classes, College of the Air, Weekend College and Aviation Management. The establishment of articulation agreements with several neighboring four-year colleges ensures students that credits earned at Cecil Community College will transfer successfully. Chesapeake College Chesapeake College, accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools, is situated on a 170-acre campus near Wye Mills, MD and has a branch campus in Cambridge, MD. It is a regional, non-residential community college serving the residents of Caroline, Dorchester, Kent, Queen Anne’s and Talbot Counties on Maryland’s Eastern Shore. The College offers three associate degrees—Associate in Arts, Associate in Science, and Associate in Applied Science—along with various technical, transfer and career programs. Chesapeake College also offers dual enrollment for high school students, credit for prior experience or education, non-credit courses, and continuing education courses. Financial aid, career and academic counseling, athletics and extracurricular activities are also available. College of Southern Maryland The College of Southern Maryland (formerly Charles County Community College) is a regionally accredited college that services students intending to transfer to four-year colleges and those seeking immediate career entry. Students also attend CSM to upgrade job skills or for personal enrichment. The college operates campuses in La Plata, Leonardtown and Prince Frederick, as well as the Waldorf Center for Higher Education. In July 2000, the college transitioned from the community college at Charles, Calvert and St. Mary’s to CSM, a regional institution. Over 20 associate’s degree programs and more than 15 certificate programs are offered, as well as hundreds of continuing education courses. Community College of Baltimore County The Community College of Baltimore County (CCBC) is the number one provider of undergraduate education and workforce training in the Baltimore metropolitan area. CCBC offers programs in more than 60 career and transfer programs in business and law, the environment, education, technology, the arts and sciences, and health and medicine, and offers the area's largest selection of continuing education classes. CCBC provides credit and non-credit learning opportunities that occur "anyplace, anyway and anytime," self-paced on the Web, in smart classrooms, on television, in distance learning labs, and through the Weekend College. Frederick Community College A comprehensive community college, Frederick Community College provides transfer, career, continuing education, cultural and recreational programs to residents of Frederick County, one of Maryland's fastest growing areas. Over 60 percent of the county’s college-bound graduates select FCC for post-secondary education. FCC awards associate degrees and certificates in 70 fields of study. The Continuing Education customized training division offers professional development, business, general interest and allied health programs and contract training for area businesses. The College provides academic and career counseling, transfer and placement services, a comprehensive distance learning program, and tutorial services. Garrett College Garrett College is a small rural campus in the mountains of Western Maryland overlooking Deep Creek Lake and the Wisp Resort area. Students receive personalized instruction in small classes. On-campus residence hall accommodates 60 students. Garrett College offers two-year associate degree transfer and career entry programs, one-year certificate programs, and continuing education courses. Specialized programs with an outdoor focus are: Adventure Sports, Agricultural Management, and Natural Resources & Wildlife Technology. Intramural and intercollegiate sports for men and women are available. Other programs and services include displaced homemakers program, career exploration and job placement service. Hagerstown Community College Hagerstown Community College is a two-year public community college offering both transfer and career-oriented programs, as well as continuing education courses. The college’s scenic 300-plus acre campus is home to a state-of-the-art Advanced Technology Center and a comprehensive athletic complex. HCC is accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools. Students benefit from a full range of student services including simplified admissions and registration procedures, job placement, child care and a commitment to disabled students. The average HCC student is 28 years old. HCC has an open door admissions policy. Harford Community College Harford Community College is a fully accredited, public admission two-year community college offering a wide variety of majors and career training. Over 22,000 Harford Countians take credit and noncredit classes each year. Campus facilities include networked computer labs, a new one-stop shop student services center, a radio and TV studio, 65,000 volume library, 900-seat performing arts center, and an Apprenticeship and Training Center. Typical HCC credit students are 29, working and taking classes part-time. Many younger students attend full-time to prepare for transfer to four-year colleges. Students also benefit from a continuous registration policy, mail-in and FAX registration, day and evening child care and comprehensive counseling services. The college received a Paragon award in 2001 for excellence in publications. It coordinates upper division and graduate programs through the Higher Education and Applied Technology (HEAT) Center. Howard Community College Howard Community College, a fully accredited two-year institution in Columbia, offers a range of instructional programs, cultural arts events, student activities and athletics, and business training. Small class size provides individualized attention. More than 75 programs of study, transfer agreements with four-year schools and excellent facilities add to a challenging learning environment. Notable offerings include the nationally acclaimed James W. Rouse Scholars programs, the Silas Craft Collegians program; Project Access for students with disabilities, and the $30,000 Columbia Classic Grand Prix equestrian event. Montgomery College Montgomery College is the oldest and largest community college in the state of Maryland. The college offers transfer and career-oriented academic programs. Its state-of-market equipment and extensive library resources enhance the ability of Montgomery College to provide high-quality education. Montgomery College offers classes at three conveniently located campuses—Germantown, Rockville, and Takoma Park—as well as at other community locations. Noncredit and short-term courses are also available. Prince George's Community College Prince George's Community College is a comprehensive community college serving more than 35,000 credit and noncredit students each year. The college provides over 60 credit programs designed to transfer to four-year colleges and universities, or to assist students in developing immediate workforce skills. In addition to day, evening and weekend courses on the Largo Campus, the college offers credit and noncredit instruction at these major sites: Andrews Air Force Base, Metro Center in Hyattsville and Eleanor Roosevelt High School in Greenbelt; at extension centers throughout the County; and through a variety of distance learning formats. In 2000-2001, the Metro Center in Hyattsville was opened to serve students in the northwestern section of Prince George’s County. The College is fully accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools. Wor-Wic Community College Wor-Wic Community College offers credit programs and non-credit courses that are occupational in nature, as well as a general studies program and options in business, computer science, education, electronic engineering technology and manufacturing engineering technology.
