Maryland's largest freshwater and waste water service providers include the City of Baltimore Water Distribution System, serving 1.6 million people in the Baltimore metropolitan area, and the Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission, with 1.5 million customers in the Maryland suburbs of Washington, D.C. Outside of the service regions of these organizations, service is provided by county agencies.
