Getting Around Maryland header

Maryland’s efficient and well-maintained highways and transportation system makes commuting convenient. Public transportation provides frequent local and express services throughout the state and to the nation’s capital by bus, light rail, subway and train.

Fourteen interstate highways link Maryland to every major U.S. market. With direct routes to every state from Massachusetts to Florida via 1-95, and across county to Colorado via I-70, 50% of the nation’s population is accessible from Maryland within an overnight drive.

Journey off the beaten path on one of Maryland’s 19 scenic byways. Cruise the main streets of towns like Westminster on the Old Main Streets byway, explore the roots of our religious freedoms on the Tubman Underground Railroad  byway or drive along the roads less traveled to the state’s most well known recreational and historic destinations.

BWI Thurgood Marshal Airport, located 10 miles south of Baltimore and 30 miles north of Washington is easily accessible by car, Amtrack or light rail. The region is also served by Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport in D.C. and Dulles International Airport in Northern Virginia. The state’s nine regional and commuter airports offer shuttle service from Western Maryland to the Capital Region and from Southern Maryland to the Eastern Shore.
