BALTIMORE, MD (December 20, 2007) – The Maryland Department of Business and Economic Development today announced that it has awarded $60,000 in matching grants to a dozen Maryland companies, helping them market their products and services in overseas markets. The grants, through DBED’s Export MD program, are awarded to small- and medium- sized companies to help defray the cost of international marketing initiatives, including trade show fees, travel expenses, brochures and website development.
BALTIMORE, MD (December 12, 2007) – The Maryland Department of Business and Economic Development and the Prince George’s County Economic Development Corporation announced today that $550,000 in conditional loans have been approved to help Comcast expand its operations in Maryland. The funds will be used for project costs associated with Comcast’s new Advanced Service Center in Largo, Md., which is expected to bring up to 500 new permanent, full-time jobs to Prince George’s County.
BALTIMORE, MD (December 5, 2007) – As part of Governor Martin O’Malley’s continued commitment to small and minority businesses, the Maryland Department of Business and Economic Development today announced it will provide an additional $100,000 in grants to two Maryland Microenterprise Funds. The Garrett County Community Action Committee, also known as Microworks, and Maryland Capital Enterprises Inc. (MCE) in Salisbury will each receive a $50,000 grant through DBED’s Maryland Economic Adjustment Fund.

BALTIMORE, MD (November 15, 2007) – The Maryland Office of Tourism Development, an agency of the Maryland Department of Business and Economic Development, announced today a tourism education scholarship in memory of Marcia Harris, President and CEO of the Restaurant Association of Maryland (RAM) who passed away earlier this year. The scholarship will be given annually to a student attending Baltimore’s National Academy Foundation High School and studying the Hospitality and Tourism program. The funding will pay for the student to attend the annual Maryland Governor’s Tourism Industry Conference, including registration, accommodations and transportation.
ANNAPOLIS, MD (November 13, 2007) – Governor Martin O’Malley and Baltimore Mayor Sheila Dixon today announced that leading financial services firm Morgan Stanley has signed a lease to expand operations into Harbor Point, a new mixed-used waterfront project located between Harbor East and Fells Point that is being developed by Struever Bros. Eccles & Rouse and H&S Properties Development Corporation. Morgan Stanley, which already has a significant presence in Baltimore, plans to add up to 900 new jobs in the city over the next decade as a result of this expansion.

SALISBURY, MD (June 25, 2007) – Governor Martin O’Malley, joined by State and local officials at his Cabinet meeting in Salisbury, today announced an advance of $2 million to continue installation of the Rural Broadband Initiative from Salisbury to the Bay Bridge, the second phase of the massive project to bring fiber optic lines to the Eastern Shore and Southern Maryland. Earlier this month, NASA’s Wallops Island Space Facility was linked to Salisbury State University completing Phase 1 of the initiative.
