California headquartered Sierra Hygiene Products, LLC, is expanding and will locate in Allegany County, Maryland at the Frostburg Assembly Plant.  This company focuses on the away-from-home paper market in North America – hand towels, bathroom tissue, and industrial wipers. Sierra Hygiene emphasizes product quality and customer service.

“We are extremely pleased that Sierra Hygiene Products has decided to locate their new manufacturing facility in Allegany County,” said David Edgerley, Maryland Secretary of Business and Economic Development.  “Maryland has a rich and proud tradition of manufacturing, an industry sector we consider vital to the State’s economy and future growth.  By supporting this project we are ensuring that an excellent company will have the tools they need to grow and bring good paying jobs to the community.”

Matthew W. Diaz, Director of the Allegany County Department of Economic Development, remarked: “Allegany County is delighted to welcome Sierra Hygiene Products! This progressive manufacturing company focuses on products essential for business and industry in today’s world. This site selection places Sierra Hygiene in the middle of the eastern United States, a critical geographic region.”

James J. Stakem, President of the Allegany County Commissioners, stated:

“I join with my fellow Allegany County Commissioners, Bob Hutcheson and Dale Lewis, and extend a warm Western Maryland welcome to Sierra Hygiene Products.  Company management has made a smart business decision. The Frostburg location will be a first-rate manufacturing facility.”

Sierra’s President, Doug Johnson, had the following statement: “We chose Frostburg after an exhaustive, multi-state site search.  Each area we visited offered us competitive incentive plans, good plant locations and nice buildings.  But in the end, it came down to people.  Tim Carney, Matt Diaz and the rest of the people we dealt with in Allegany County worked their tails off to make us feel wanted and welcome.  Frostburg has a lot of good, hard working people, and we saw that in our everyday interactions during our visits to Frostburg.  We saw enthusiastic people that take pride in doing a good job.  That’s what finally convinced us to make Frostburg our East Coast home.  We are looking forward to building on our tradition of service and product excellence with the people of Frostburg. Thanks for having us Frostburg.  We’re glad to be here!”

NOTE: Timothy J. Carney is a Senior Project Manager with the Allegany County Department of Economic Development.

The company will make a multi-million dollar investment in the local facility.  This will be a state of the art manufacturing operation with all of the associated technologies. The company considers itself “a new kind of paper company” and offers “smart systems for business and industry.”

Sierra Hygiene Products strives to develop and provide high quality, value-added products, systems and services to small and medium size distributors that are underserved by the major paper manufacturers. CEO Johnson and his team possess over 130 years of combined paper industry experience.

Commissioner Robert M. Hutcheson acknowledged the assistance provided by the State of Maryland Department of Business and Economic Development (DBED).  “DBED and the Allegany County Department of Economic Development, as always, worked well together.  DBED provided an outright $150,000 financial incentive to Sierra Hygiene Products. Now, there’s a new manufacturing company locating in Allegany County.  The Allegany County Commissioners sincerely appreciate DBED’s significant monetary contribution.”

Commissioner Dale R. Lewis cited the employment opportunities: “This is a win-win – for Allegany County and for Sierra Hygiene Products.  This company is on the upswing. This manufacturing facility means solid, stable jobs for our community. It’s great news for workers and their families.” Sierra will offer high paying jobs accompanied by medical benefits and a retirement savings plan.
