40 businesses receive grants for cyber efforts in Maryland

Thanks to the Small Business Cybersecurity Resilience in Maryland (SCRIM) program, 40 small and midsized Maryland businesses have received special funding targeted at improving cybersecurity training and knowledge. Established in 2022, Maryland’s SCRIM program is funded by the U.S. Small Business Administration in its pursuit to help create statewide cybersecurity initiatives throughout the country.

As part of the funding, contracted in-state service providers will aid the selected businesses with direct services to help mitigate future cyber attacks and improve upon existing cybersecurity infrastructures. Each business will receive an initial cybersecurity audit of existing systems, followed by remediation and mitigation efforts and industry specific cybersecurity hygiene training to target problem areas. Maryland Commerce has worked alongside the Maryland Small Business Development Center  and the Cybersecurity Association of Maryland to develop the SCRIM program as part of the ongoing nationwide Cybersecurity for Small Business Pilot Program . The SBA supported program provides funding to state governments to help small businesses across America develop solid cybersecurity infrastructure. In addition to Maryland, Arkansas and South Dakota also received funding.
